36 x 36 x 1.75 inches

My Fire and Fog series is inspired by two cyclical phenomena that have greatly influenced Northern California landscape. Both fog and fire obliterate, turning scenery and nature into gray, black and light. Familiar shapes return when the fog dissipates; fire however leaves behind an eerily tragic, charred landscape. Fog creates a comforting, quiet, thoughtful solitude – a blanket around us, encourages contemplation. The aftermath of fire creates similar conditions with charred remnants awaiting future rebirth.

My work tends to evolve in a cyclical rather than a linear form – as I explore new directions, I will circle back to previous expressions and reinterpret them based on more recent pieces. I also like to let ideas and images marinate so that they can subsequently re-emerge in different forms. The Echo series groups sixteen pieces that act as a visual snapshot of different explorations occurring simultaneously.
